Assurances of Discontinuance are agreements between the Attorney General's Office and an individual or entity believed to have violated the Charitable Solicitations Act. While the defendant individual or entity does not admit wrongdoing, the defendant agrees not to engage in practices that violate the Charitable Solicitations Act, including soliciting charitable donations without registering with the Office of the Secretary of State. A violation of the Assurance may serve as grounds for a civil action by the Attorney General. Assurances of Discontinuance are filed in court under the Consumer Protection Act and typically require payment costs and attorney fees.
