Proposed Initiatives to the Legislature - 2006

The following is a list of proposed initiatives to the Legislature filed to date with the Office of the Secretary of State. To be certified, a petition must contain the signatures of at least 224,880 registered voters. The deadline for filing petition signatures for the following initiatives is 5:00 p.m. December 29, 2006. Questions regarding the content of initiatives should be directed to the sponsor(s).

NOTE

Initiative numbers are not assigned until the proposal has been reviewed by the state Code Reviser and the sponsor has submitted the final language of the proposed initiative. The content of initiatives is described as general "subject matter" pending the issuance of an official ballot title and summary by the state Attorney General.

Ballot Title
Initiative Measure No. 355 concerns property taxes.

This measure would reduce each taxing district's property tax levy annually by one percent from the amount otherwise allowed, except certain increases approved by general election voters, and revise real property assessment procedures.
Should this measure be enacted into law? Yes [ ] No [ ]

Ballot Measure Summary
This measure would reduce the regular property tax levy annually for each taxing district by one percent from the amount that would otherwise be lawfully allowed, beginning with taxes levied for collection in 2007. Levy increases approved by voters at a general election would be excluded in calculating this reduction. Real property revaluation would be limited to once every four years, and restrictions would be placed on adjusting property values in between the four-year revaluations.

This measure would require that a designated mental health professional evaluate a person’s mental health based on a petition to superior court filed by three immediate family members, requesting such an evaluation due to multiple criminal behavior or violent or threatening behavior. It would also provide for reporting to designated mental health professionals and evaluation and treatment facilities if certain persons exhibit life-threatening verbal or physical abuse.

Opinions would be tabulated with funding by donations and subscriptions.
