Carolyn Dimmick

FIRST STATE SUPREME COURT JUSTICE 1981-1985

  • “Pretty Blonde Water Skier Qualifies asAttorney!” a Seattle paper noted in a 1950s era headline when Dimmick passed the bar.
  • 1981 proved quite a year for women justices. Dimmick won her appointment to the State Supreme Court as justices welcomed Sandra Day O’Connor to the bench of the U.S. Supreme Court.
  • Dimmick’s tough-minded legal wisdom earned the confidence of President Ronald Reagan who, in 1985, named her to the U.S. District Court.

"In the 1970s, Washington women lawyers were getting organized. Grouping together gave us courage. And we overcame."
