Reba Hurn

FIRST STATE SENATOR 1923-1931

Intent on teaching German and earning a master’s degree, Hurn traveled overseas to learn the language and study abroad in 1907.
In Germany, she met philanthropist Norman Straus and helped distribute pasteurized milk to prevent infant mortality.
Hurn next became an attorney and in 1913 practiced with her father in Spokane.
The prohibitionist went on to become the first woman re-elected to the Legislature and served four sessions on the Appropriations Committee.
At 65, the world traveler spent years in the Middle East when the State of Israel was created.
