Legislative Building
Earthquake Damage, 1949
In 1949 a major earthquake struck Olympia, severely damaging the Legislative Building and the other Capitol Group buildings . There was significant damage to the dome, some of he columns had shifted, and there were major cracks in the structure of the Legislative Building. As a part of the reconstruction work the stone lantern from the top of the dome was removed and replaced with a light-weight metal one.
