It's not too late, if your library hasn't signed up for the Gale package. All public, academic, and special libraries that wish to obtain the SDL package from Gale Cengage are requested to fill out, sign, and return the SDL Intent to Participate Form for Libraries. Contact SDL Project Manager, Jude Guzzy, for pricing information.

K-12 libraries (public, private, or district level) should contact their respective ESD for pricing information and to sign up for the Gale package.

By signing the Intent to Participate Form, the organization is agreeing to abide by the terms of the Gale Product and Services License Agreement, which has been substantially modified for the contract with the State of Washington. Please carefully read and understand these important terms of use, and make certain that all library staff are aware of them.

In addition to submitting the SDL Intent to Participate Form, libraries new to the package should fill out and return Gale's New Library Activation Request for Washington Libraries. The information provided on this form goes directly to Gale and allows them to set up library accounts for activation.

Private academic libraries and special libraries are requested to also provide current user count data. Please fill out and return the appropriate forms, found in the list below.

Renewal Information

For the July 1, 2024 - June 30, 2025 renewal year, costs for public, academic, and special libraries will be unchanged from the previous year, with zero increase. K-12 school and district library costs are set by the individual Educational Services Districts.

Renewal is automatic for public, academic, and special libraries, unless a Cancellation Form is received by April 30, 2024. K-12 school districts, individual schools (public or private) and libraries renew through their respective Educational Service Districts.

Note: The Cancellation Form includes an optional digital signature feature, but in our experience, that feature may ONLY be available if the form is opened with the Adobe Acrobat Reader software, rather than in one's browser. Written signatures are also acceptable.

As a reminder, the Washington State Library (WSL) subsidized over 50% of the total Gale package contract cost, using federal LSTA (Library Service & Technology Act) funds administered by IMLS (the Institute of Museum and Library Services). For the first year of the contract (July 1, 2021 – June 30, 2022), WSL subsidized 75% of the cost, meaning that most participating library costs were cut in half again.

Libraries wishing to join the project for this year should contact SDL project manager, Jude Guzzy for pricing. Almost every nonprofit library in Washington State has the opportunity to license the Gale database package through the state contract at a deeply discounted price that saves significant dollars throughout the library community. Note: K-12 schools/libraries should contact their representative ESD for information on participation. Other libraries should contact the State Library SDL Project staff.
